Case studies and testimonials

Greg Bondar, CEO of The Institute of Hospital Engineers Australia, on the Institute’s new member magazine produced by Third Sector Services.

What’s the value of a print magazine?
The print magazine allows my members to keep track of events and industry developments, anytime and anywhere. It’s a great resource for quick reference.

Why did you choose to outsource the design of your magazine?
I am of the view that specialisation is the key to productivity and effective cost management, hence why do what others do better?

Why did you choose Third Sector Services?
I have been monitoring the Third Sector magazine on a regular basis and both the quality and look of the publication was one that I was searching for in an association magazine.

How has the new magazine been received by readers and advertisers?
Without hesitation the first issue that Third Sector Services produced was outstanding in look, feel and layout, which was extremely well received by both the members and advertisers.

How useful is the complimentary media kit Third Sector Services creates for ongoing clients like IHEA?
Without doubt the media kit prepared by Third Sector Services was the major selling point in convincing advertisers – it is functional and has a very professional look.

Why would you recommend working with Third Sector Services?
Without sounding gratuitous, the services provided Third Sector Services are both professional and friendly, and very flexible, as in my case I am always behind schedule!

Philip Armstrong, The Australian Counselling Association (ACA)

What’s the value of having a print magazine?

Many readers comment it is the difference between meeting the expectations of what a professional peak body should deliver and simply just another body of professionals that simply meet every month.

Why did you choose to outsource the design of your magazine?

The journal in its ten year history had reached its optimum in relation to delivering a peer reviewed journal to members that was produced internally by the association. To go to the next level and compete internationally in design, content and layout with other similar journals it needed the expertise of professional publishers as this was not and is not the expected strength of ACA. Therefore an external publisher was sought to take the journal to the next level and we nor our readers have been let down in this regard.

Why did you choose Great Southern Press?

Word of mouth recommendation and an ad in another professional magazine.

How has the new magazine been received by readers and advertisers?

We have been over whelmed by how well members have received the new publication. Change always comes with an inherent risk and changing the format, design and layout of a journal with a ten year history of being successful came with some anxiety. The members have all said the change has made what they thought was already a great journal even better. They love the full colour and in particular the new layout. The change has been received overwhelmingly in the positive.

Would you recommend working with Great Southern Press and why?

Definitely, they keep to their promises in relation to helping improve the product whilst keeping to timelines and quotes – does it get any better than that? Personally in retrospect we should have made the change at least two years earlier.

Martin Saunders, Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society

“The consensus has been that a print newsletter is still an important communication tool for the Society and that, provided we can maintain a good quality publication without the costs blowing out, we should continue to run it in its current format.”

“The production and advertising documents are a great help to me as editor. When we produced our first issue with Great Southern Press the process was alien to me but the Great Southern Press staff are very helpful and were able to guide me through the first issue. Once I understood the process, the production and advertising documents made the process very straightforward, allowing us to progress from submitting the various articles and adverts, to the proofs stage and final publication with ease and in a timely fashion.”
